Reply with quote | #2 | I have tried out the plugin and would like to see support for the following IFC entities:
IfcMember IfcPlate IfcArbitraryClosedProfileDef
That would make it possible to display some of the models at http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/cis2.html
Support for the parametric profiles such as IfcIShapeProfileDef and others would be helpful.
How well does the plugin scale for very large models?

I haven't tried any really large models. All the models I have are from ArchiCAD. I was hoping so people would try it on their Revit or AutoCAD (Desktop) models to give us feedback. |

Even more IFC samples: ftp://ftp.buildingsmart.no/pub/AHus-electrical/BrisbaneDemo/BIM%20Models/Statsbygg_HIBO_Preliminary_test_files_2007-11-01/ The test files contain IFC 2x3 exports from - Graphisoft Archicad 11 (Architect) - http://www.graphisoft.com - Autodesk Revit Structure (Structural) - http://www.autodesk.com - DDS-CAD Building Services (MEP) - http://www.dds-cad.net
One comment after Plugins|IFC Converter|Show Model ... Open IFC File|Open ... is that the opening window in congested to info on creating application and actor. It took some time before I realised that I had to maximize the window for selecting the conversion options. I started importing a 19 MB IFC file (Archicad 11 model) on a run-of-the-mill Dell D610 laptop with 1GB RAM, but gave up after about 330 minutes of 100% CPU load. A bit ambitious? ... :-))
Any chance of getting an "SKP2IFC" plugin (i.e. IFC export) as well? I suspect quite lot of architects would start in SketchUp for prograamming sketches and early design, and at some stage would like to move their SKP project into Archicad, Revit, Bentley, VectorWorks or similar CAD application for further design. I know Archicad already provides a SKP plugin, but an IFC based information exchange would be even better. |

I have tried converting a few revit models into sketch up with the ifcskp, both basic and complex, and in all cases there was always portions of the model that failed to convert, leaving a very incomplete model. I have not found a common thread to what comes through and what does not. example: Storefront glass systems will not translate over. Any suggestions or comments? |

Reply with quote | #9 | Thank you dorlytle,
We've found that kind of bugs, and are looking into the geometry conversion function. It would be nice that we could see the which type of object (family? in Revit) will be failed. |

Reply with quote | #10 | A bit more about the geometry conversion from Revit's IFC data:
Following IFC entity types are not in the conversion list at the moment. - IfcBuildingElementProxy (Balcony grill, opening cases, etc) - IfcCurtainWall - IfcFurnishingElement - etc.
Adding these entity types in the list is not so difficult, so next release will include these missing entity types.
And then, some column objects might be incorrect position, and we're looking into this issue. |
